Amazon Software Development Manager, Sponsored Brand Ads in New York, New York

We are Sponsored Brand (SB) org within Amazon Advertising. We are looking for a Software Development Manager (SDM) with a strong sense of ownership, a passion for delivering creative solutions for complex problems on an unprecedented scale. You will be a technology innovation leader, builder, operator and play a key role in the evolution of our Ad platform. You will have the opportunity to work with high transactional loads, big data, ML modeling, scalable distributed architectures, APIs and state of the art UX designs.

Key job responsibilities

  • Manage engineers to plan, design, and deliver complex systems and architecture improvements

  • Hire and develop engineering talent.

  • Create product vision, technical strategies and roadmaps

  • Deliver customer facing features that support business

  • Manage operations, scaling, performance and availability of services

  • Setup key engineering and operational mechanisms

  • Own all business and operational metrics for your team’s software.

  • Collaborate with senior engineers develop technology and architectural roadmaps.

  • Partner with product, science, business, and technology teams across Amazon Ads to drive alignment and make high-judgment decisions.

About the team

Our SB Ad Serving teams owns core Ad Serving services (a low-latency, high TPS, distributed system), Video Ads and new Supply expansions. These services serve both billions of Amazon shoppers and millions of Advertisers internationally. We are working on multiple cross-org architectural and business projects with highest impact and visibility – all are critical, forward-looking, strategic opportunities for Amazon.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 8+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field

  • Strong Computer Science fundamentals in OOD, algorithms and data structures

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to define product vision / technical strategy and translate it to team charters and product roadmaps

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software development life cycle

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in building and operating distributed systems with high availability

  • A passion for people management and coaching

  • Strong sense of ownership and drive

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills; experience presenting complex technical information succinctly to technical and non-technical audiences

  • Experience in Ads Technology

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
