About DVS
The mission of the Department of Veterans’ Services is to connect, mobilize, and empower New York City’s Veteran Community in order to foster purpose-driven lives for New York City Service Members – past and present – in addition to their caregivers, survivors, and families. DVS fulfills this mission by providing New York City’s approximately 200,000 Veterans with essential services and programs focused on pivotal areas such as economic empowerment, housing security, benefits, health and wellness, and culture.
About the Role: Receptionist/Community Associate
Job Description: duties include greeting visitors, answering phone calls, responding to emails, and maintaining the office reception area. They may also help with scheduling, correspondence, and other clerical tasks. The position is not eligible for teleworking due to multiple in-office responsibilities of the position.
Responsibilities:
Maintain the tidiness of the DVS office reception area and the materials on display there
Greet clients in the reception area and enter them into the DVS visitor log
Alert DVS staff when clients have arrived for a meeting
Answer phone calls and take messages
Answer emails
Handle mail and other correspondence
Check client eligibility for DVS programs
Schedule appointments for new and existing clients
Direct clients outside of NYC to the veteran resources in their states
Assist clients in contacting US Department of Veterans Affairs offices in and around NYC
Assist DVS housing and benefits staff with special projects
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Qualification Requirements
High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
