Macmillan Production Editorial Assistant in New York, New York
Description
Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group is seeking a detail-oriented individual with a good eye for grammar and a passion for all types of children’s books to be a Production Editorial Assistant. The production editorial assistant provides proofreading and administrative support to our team of production editors and managing editors, as well as assistance with timely trafficking of a variety of materials and maintenance of clear and accurate title information. They will check for quality assurance of text, illustrations and photos, and jackets/covers for numerous stages of book production, from manuscript to finished books.
What you'll do:
Assist production editors with the proofreading of routing book stages as needed.
Prepare electronic manuscripts for design and typesetting.
Review text at multiple stages to ensure revisions have been made correctly.
Copyedit and proofread jacket/cover copy, indexes, and other material.
Assist in the coordination of freelancer resources.
Attend weekly production meetings, taking notes and providing updates as needed.
Required Skills / Knowledge:
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Strong knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Experience with digital text markup.
Meticulous attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize and use time efficiently.
Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality.
Ideal Experience:
Administrative work or internship experience, ideally with a publisher or related industry.
Excellent computer skills, as well as verbal and written communication skills.
Basic proofreading experience preferred.
A strong interest in children’s books.
This role will have an annual salary of $50,000.
