Emergency Medical Services / Ambulance Service Department

Job Title: Paramedic - Various Shifts ( Part Time, Full Time)

Job Summary:

Receives emergency calls from dispatcher and promptly, safely responds to assignments. Ensures the safety of the patient and other personnel at all times

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Takes histories and performs physical exams as indicated on patients in the field

  • Initiates indicated treatment modalities according to written policies and medical control physician orders

  • Supervises all persons on the scene involved with patient care within the scope of protocol

  • Becomes the triage officer at mass casualty incidents until relieved by superiors

  • Accompanies the patient to the ED and monitors and treats the patient during transportation

  • Transports the patient to the appropriate emergency department and reports orally to the nurse and/or physician

  • Writes a comprehensive report documenting the situation at the scene, physical exam, orders received, treatments rendered, response to these treatments, and other information deemed pertinent

  • Maintains ambulance logs and submits detailed incident, accident, occurrence reports and statements when required

  • Operates the vehicle in a safe manner at all times

  • Maintains ambulances and other emergency vehicles and equipment in efficient working order, makes minor repairs and replacements when necessary, and cleans and restocks the equipment and vehicles

  • Reports any obvious mechanical malfunctions or deficiencies to the supervisor immediately verbally and/or in writing

  • Communicates with patient’s family and friends at the scene

  • Communicates with other health team members in the community and at the hospital

  • Assists with triage and other prehospital duties

  • Performs EKG’s in the ED as well as on the ambulance

  • Performs paramedic level skills in the ED with the exception of drug administration

  • Paramedics are responsible for IV drip maintenance for those medications noted in their protocols

  • Charts findings of physical exam, history, and treatments rendered on the ED chart

  • Performs heavy and awkward lofting of patients in difficult areas and terrain

Requirements:

Four year high school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of training program as and Emergency Medical Technician, EMT Paramedic, and other protocol update programs as currently required. 1 + years’ experience preferred
