How will you make an impact in this role?
As a member of the Enterprise Digital, Strategic Partnerships & Legal Risk Management in the General Counsel Organization of American Express, this position will involve interfacing with colleagues globally on legal issues related to products and capabilities managed by Enterprise Digital & Data Solutions, strategic data deals, digital marketing initiatives and other projects, as well as working collaboratively with other stakeholders in a highly matrixed organization. This position will report to a Senior Counsel and it is based in New York.
Here is just some of what you will do in this role:
Provide a wide range of legal support to internal product development and marketing teams and assess legal risk with respect to Amex Offers channels, web and digital acquisition platforms, customer communications and product updates/enhancements.
Collaborate with internal governance and enterprise compliance stakeholders in connection with offers’ constructs, program terms and cardmember facing terms to ensure adherence to UDAAP, FTC and other relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
Support legal needs across the enterprise that involve customer, merchant and third-party data & information housed within internal systems and databases.
Provide legal advice and support to business partners and stakeholders to manage legal risks for their functions, improve internal processes and advice on global company programs such as the Global Retention Management, Global Legal Inventory, and other similar databases.
Draft, negotiate and review a variety of vendor and partnership agreements.
Monitor external trends and developments, support on how to ensure management and the organization understands and complies with legal and regulatory requirements.
Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization in order to efficiently identify legal issues and effectively mitigate associated risks, including Compliance, Data Strategy, Information Security, Privacy and the Third-Party Lifecycle Management teams.
Support efforts, more generally, to identify and manage legal and compliance risks, including through company programs and frameworks. Support the operation of these programs day-to-day and through periodic reviews and updates.
Qualifications - Are you ready for the challenge?
Minimum qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree and JD with admission to practice law in the United States 2 years of relevant privacy experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal environment
Experience advising marketing/business, technology, and operations teams on how to implement nuanced legal and policy requirements
Preferred qualifications :
Admission to the New York Bar in good standing or eligibility to do so
Ability to convey clear advice to clients and provide proactive, creative, and business oriented solutions
Strong interest and/or experience in digital products, data, emerging technology, and artificial intelligence
Strong executive presence, interpersonal skills, and ability to influence stakeholders on cross functional teams through collaboration
Self-motivated, with the ability to resolve novel, complex issues with a resourceful, can-do attitude
Demonstrated ability to build excellent relationships with legal colleagues and business clients, while prioritizing multiple challenging tasks and managing stakeholder expectations
Willingness and flexibility to be a team player, and take on new responsibilities and challenges as American Express and its businesses continue to evolve
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Qualifications
Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually bonus benefits
