The Global Risk & Compliance Organization (GRC) is an independent risk management function, led by the Chief Risk Officer, with the objective of ensuring that American Express operates in a safe, sound, and fully compliant manner with all applicable regulatory expectations. GRC creates and maintains the overall risk management framework, performs independent risk management assessments, and monitors applicable risks.

The Compliance Risk Management team facilitates and monitors the implementation of effective compliance risk management programs throughout the organization, and oversees risk ownership throughout business units, products, and processes.
The objective of Compliance Risk Management Governance team is to develop, oversee and strengthen the organization’s Compliance Risk Management framework to ensure that governance structures, policies, and procedures are robust, effective, and align with regulatory requirements and best practices. The Compliance Committee Governance team ensures that compliance committees operate effectively, facilitate informed decision-making, and align with regulatory expectations and internal governance standards.
Responsibilities
Committee Governance & Oversight
Manage the governance framework for compliance risk committees, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and internal policies.
Oversee the preparation of committee materials, including agendas, reports, and presentations for senior leadership and board committees.
Ensure proper documentation of meetings, including minutes, action items, and follow-ups, to support effective decision-making.
Coordinate cross-functional engagement to facilitate the escalation and resolution of compliance issues.
Regulatory & Compliance Risk Management
Support the oversight of compliance risks across business lines, ensuring that issues are appropriately escalated and addressed.
Monitor regulatory developments and industry best practices to enhance committee governance and risk oversight.
Collaborate with legal, audit, and risk teams to ensure governance practices align with enterprise risk management frameworks.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
Serve as a liaison between compliance, senior executives, board committees, and external regulators.
Provide strategic recommendations to enhance governance processes and improve risk management practices.
Develop reports and dashboards to provide transparency into compliance committee operations and key risk areas.
Qualifications
6 years of experience in compliance, operational risk management, corporate governance, or regulatory affairs within a financial institution.
Strong knowledge of financial regulations, compliance risk frameworks, and corporate governance principles.
Experience preparing board and senior management reports and facilitating governance forums.
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership.
Expertise in process governance, with a track record of establishing and overseeing robust decision-making processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and / or operational standards
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyze data, identify trends and evaluate risk scenarios effectively
Excellent writing skills and ability to synthesize key messages for senior audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Law, Business, Finance, or a related field (JD or MBA preferred).
Experience with regulatory exams, internal audits, and compliance reporting.
Familiarity with governance best practices in a multi-entity financial institution.
Qualifications
Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually bonus benefits
