INVESTMENT RISK SENIOR ANALYST

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

The Investment Risk Analyst will play a crucial role in supporting the Head of Investment Risk in managing and overseeing the investment risk function at City National Rochdale (CNR). Will ensure that risks related to CNR's proprietary funds and models are assessed, monitored, and reported effectively, while meeting regulatory standards. Will also oversee implementation of asset allocation and strategy guidance. The analyst will be responsible for risk analysis, reporting, and working closely with various tools to ensure oversight of the investment portfolio.

What you will do

  • Support the Head of Investment Risk in identifying, analyzing, and assessing investment, market, liquidity, counterparty, and operational risks across investment portfolios.

  • Conduct stress testing, scenario analysis, and liquidity assessments on discretionary portfolios to ensure that the portfolios remain within CNR's risk appetite.

  • Manage the development of analytical tools to better identify, measure and communicate investment risks, risk concentrations, investment guideline breaches, style drift, and other drivers of risk in managed portfolios.

  • Extract and interpret data from multiple portfolio management systems to create reports on portfolio performance, risk exposures, and compliance with CNR's risk management policies.

  • Build and manage internal relationships with key relevant stakeholders, particularly within Portfolio Management, Research, Product Managers, Compliance and other areas of CNB's Private Banking and Wealth Management. Work closely with key stakeholders to review and improve quality of metrics and reporting over time.

  • Support the management in the delivery of a sound governance process around Investment Risk in both 1st line and 2nd line activities.

  • Assist in improving the use of technology and risk tools to enhance risk oversight and analysis capabilities.

  • Monitor compliance with investment risk policies and procedures, including investment guidelines, regulatory liquidity and derivative rules.

  • Interacting with internal control teams (2LoD and 3LoD) and regulators (OCC, SEC).

  • Collaborate with CNB's 2LoD to ensure independent oversight of discretionary fund risks, providing necessary data for risk reviews and audits.

Must-Have*

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or related fields

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with risk measurement techniques for modeling equity risk, interest rate risk, liquidity risk and price sensitivity consistent with regulatory expectations

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in investment risk analysis, preferably in an asset management or financial services environment.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Master's degree designation preferred.

  • Solid understanding of financial markets, portfolio management, investment products, and investment risk management concepts.

  • Experience with stress testing, scenario analysis, and liquidity risk management is preferred.

  • Experience working with large volumes of data and database skills desired.

  • Experience with data analysis, statistical techniques, quantitative modeling, and risk systems and factor models.

  • Experience working with investment risk management tools such as FactSet, Bloomberg, Northfield, and/or RiskMetrics is essential.

  • Working knowledge of programming languages such as Python, SQL, or VBA is highly desirable.

  • Completion or progress toward a professional certification in risk management (e.g., CFA, FRM) is a plus.

  • Experience with data visualization skills with Tableau or Power BI is highly desired.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and perform quantitative risk assessments.

  • Ability to effectively interact with the portfolio managers, product strategists, investment consultants, and 2LoD CNB control teams (Risk, Audit, Compliance) and communicate key risks.

  • Knowledge of portfolio construction, asset allocation, risk/return optimization techniques, and use of proprietary funds and models in client portfolios.

  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail, strong controls mindset and willingness to proactively investigate issues and develop solutions (both tactical and strategical).

  • Proficient in Excel, with the ability to create advanced models and risk reporting templates.

  • Establishing, developing and automating processes, procedures and controls.

  • Awareness of regulatory frameworks, particularly OCC and SEC requirements and risk standards.

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple priorities.

Compensation

Starting base salary: $111,408 - $189,738 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
