Overview
The Electrical Design Engineer will develop construction packages for substations, using both external and internal design teams. The Engineer will lead, supervise, and ensure projects meet schedules, budgets, goals, specifications, and regulatory guidelines.Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities- Develop and process request for proposals (RFP) for outside services.
- Review, guide, and monitor the progress of awarded outside contracts while coordinating deliverable package schedule milestones with the vendor.
- Coordinate and attend pre and post bid field walks.
- Track and process contracts milestone payments.
- Supervise design team in the development, review, and approval engineering design construction packages.
- Ensure design packages comply with company and industries standards and specifications.
- Schedule and support department and CENG key performance indicator initiatives.
- Communicate and coordinate deliverables with customers while developing work plans, schedules, and priorities for design personnel to meet project deadlines.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of design personnel while overseeing their training and professional development.
- Prepare, review, and revise specifications, such as Design Instructions, while supervising and guiding design personnel in their tasks.
- Provide direction and participate in the resolution of union matters.
- Coordinate and conduct field walks as required.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 3 years of applicable engineering work experience or
- Master's Degree in Engineering and 2 years of applicable engineering work experience.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 3 years of applicable engineering work experience.
- Minimum 2 years of full-time work experience in design drafting/computer aided design, electrical systems design or utility related electrical equipment application - Required
- Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel) - Required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills - Required
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with personnel on all levels - Required
- Previous supervisory experience of management and union employees - Preferred
- Knowledge in reading schematic diagrams and control schemes or blueprints in the operation and design of electrical and electronic devices and equipment - Preferred
- Familiarity with local, national, and industry codes and standards - Preferred
- Working knowledge of drafting standards and construction documentation - Preferred
- Working knowledge of computer aided design and software i.e., AutoCAD, Document management system, Wire and Raceway System, 3D etc. - Preferred
- Demonstrated analytical skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Develops and delivers effective presentations
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.
- Driver's License Required
- Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 25 pounds
- Sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for the duration of the workday
- Ability to stoop, bend, reach, and kneel throughout the workday
- Stand to use/operate office equipment for the duration of the workday
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
- Must be willing and able to travel to company locations and wear the required PPE as needed.
- Must be willing and able to work overtime and extended hours, as well as on weekends/holidays as needed, or as system conditions dictate.
- Must be willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
- Must be willing and able to work in substations in the vicinity of high voltage equipment, near and within buildings and yard areas.
- Must be willing and able wot work in and around live electricity.
- Must be willing and able to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces, on roofs, around noise, high heat, and on elevations.
- Must be able to detect traffic sounds, alarms and backup warning devices when working near traffic, around moving equipment and within substations and buildings.
