Sr Managing Director, Ocean Marine
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Talent Development • Responsible for creating and sustaining a high performing team by retaining, developing, performance managing and pipelining diverse talent • The leadership role is required to build a culture in keeping with the Hartford's Behaviors • Assist in the staffing and coaching of the management team • Set clear objectives and goals; give appropriate feedback on progress and development needs • Hold managers accountable for results • Develop top talent for succession planning. This includes recruiting and selection, compensation management, performance management, training and development and employee relations Underwriting Execution
• Responsible for ensuring that the underwriting team is executing on underwriting, pricing, legal and compliance guidelines, meeting our quality standards and effectively exhibiting judgment when guidelines do not readily address such issues • Responsible for closely partnering with the chief underwriter for Hartford Financial Products, consulting on issues relating to product, compliance, authority and appetite • Builds strong relationships with Reinsurance Partners, including but not limited to the annual renewal process, as appropriate • Similarly, required to build strong working relationships with functional partners including Claims, Finance, Actuarial, IT, HR, Legal and Marketing Strategic Planning & Financial Production • Set strategic direction, complete annual operating planning and develop initiatives to achieve financial goals • Responsible for new business growth by creating a high volume of new business submissions through interaction with the underwriting team and brokers • Ensures outstanding profitability and ROE in any market environment via superior risk selection and balance to overall portfolio • Responsible for setting P&L, achieving financial goals and execution of activities that achieve our financial goals • Analyzes financial performance in book and closely manages results through directing implementation of specific action to address financial and execution shortfalls Sales & Distribution • This role is responsible for setting strategic distribution initiatives to maximize profitable growth throughout distribution the channel • Tasks include allocating of resources, setting producer compensation levels and mutual volume goals as well as service levels • This role is responsible for maintaining effective relationships with internal business partners and external brokers and clients, negotiating appropriate policy terms and conditions with brokers, and effective cross marketing and communication with other areas of The Hartford's P&C operations • Additionally, the role must consolidate customer/distribution channel feedback and convert such feedback into profitable strategies upon which the organization can execute to ensure products are market competitive and delivering on customer's needs
Qualifications:
• Experience Ocean Marine Underwriting and/or product experience minimum of 10+ years; 5+ years of broad leadership Skills.• Understanding of property catastrophe, coverage forms, pricing, rate setting and underwriting appetite Knowledge of non-admitted E&S is preferred.• Highly effective problem solving and decision-making skills.• Strong analytics and financial acumen; P&L leadership desired• Works with minimal oversight in a highly complex, ambiguous environment • Exceptional collaboration and across the enterprise with ability to influence outcomes and lead team and functional partners through change. Ability to develop and maintain relationships externally with large wholesale brokers.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$208,000 - $312,000
