CIBC Director, Prime Brokerage In-Business Risk in New York, New York

What You’ll Be Doing

  • First-line-of-defense risk management for Cash Prime Brokerage, Synthetic Prime Brokerage, Securities Lending, and Correspondent Clearing

  • Validate client margin calls, analyze changes in client equity and excess, review internal risk and margin reports, monitor client exposures versus approved risk limits

  • Support Prime Services Sales, Transition, and Client Account Management teams: analyze prospective client portfolios and prepare margin term sheets, support business heads with negotiation of business and risk terms in legal documents, ensure approved clients are onboarded onto the Prime Brokerage platform with correct margin configurations and reporting, respond to live client margin inquiries and margin exception requests

  • Support Prime Services financial resource manager to harmonize client margin and pricing decisions

  • Monitor market trends and the evolving regulatory landscape. Identify strategic opportunities in the market and proactively manage risk

  • Act as a special liaison to the Product Development team for technical risk and margin initiatives

  • Expand the existing house margin framework for Global Prime Brokerage

  • Enhance and expand the Prime Brokerage Risk Dashboard

  • Support and collaborate with internal partners as required

  • Model Validation: manage initial review of and ongoing performance monitoring for house margin rules

  • Corporate Banking: support bankers with initial/annual client credit due diligence reviews (including portfolio decompositions & client commentary)

  • Credit and Market Risk: exposure monitoring, risk limits

  • Enterprise Risk: assist with Risk Identification, Risk Appetite programs

  • Operational Risk: Assist with control identification, critical process identification, and operational resilience exercises

  • Liquidity Risk and Treasury: house liquidity stress test

  • Business Management: audits, change initiative risk assessments for new product launches

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Programming experience in Python, VBA, SQL, and Bloomberg API

  • Experience with risk management of equities, listed equity options, futures, convertible debt, and corporate bonds

  • Knowledge of alternative asset management, margin lending, prime brokerage, Regulation T, Regulation U, FINRA Rule 4210, IIROC Rule 5000, Uncleared Margin Rules

  • Regression testing, stress-testing, and VaR analysis

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary of USD$200,000 for the New York, NY market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
