The Director, Payroll report directly to the SVP, Corporate Controller and oversees the operation ownership and functioning of the Payroll Department to ensure accurate, timely processing of Team Member payroll while managing compliance with all aspects of payroll regulations, including payment processing, payroll tax and garnishment, accounting principles and Sarbanes Oxley.  This role is accountable for the maintenance and development of checks and balances to assure proper processing procedures, oversight and review, as well as establish and enforce the short to mid term functional strategy, payroll best practices and KPIs to be used Company-wide. This is a hybrid role based in NYC or Atlanta.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee 2 direct reports with an overall team of 7, prioritizes and delegates daily group tasks, and drives efficiency within the team. 

  • Oversee the weekly payroll processing to ensure all amounts and payment dates are accurate  in cluding oversight of weekly disbursement of multi-state payroll for both Home Office and Shacks, including garnishments, benefits, stock options, taxes, and balancing the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies; ensures that SOX payroll control s are in place and operating accordingly.      

  • Ensures payroll expense is allocated accurately. Tax and insurance compliance including determining payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security ta xes, and employer's social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments.

  • Oversee Workday ERP and Partners with the business units and users to identify training and business operational needs and opportunities; captures business requirements a nd develops/designs system solutions as well as key performance indicators for control and monitoring and the preparation of departmental metrics and analytical reporting.

  • Internal Communication and external support to employees and vendors.  Ensure that S LA’s are adhered to as it relates to the Payroll function.  Demonstrates business acumen for managing diverse staff, collaborating with other departments, and working with individuals at various levels throughout the organization.

  • Maintains proper complia nce oversight, documentation, and knowledge to successfully lead, respond and comply with federal and state labor audits.

  • Partner closely with Human Resources (People Team) to drive a comprehensive approach to our team member payroll experience.

  • Stays abreast of former and current Federal and State regulations impacting payroll calculations and payroll taxes, and leverages subject matter expertise to execute system audits and propose recommendation for system enhancements.

  • Oversee execution of system en hancements and related testing to validate completeness and accuracy of all changes requested.

  • Oversee payroll processing and tax filing requirements for the Hong Kong office.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years related experinece

  • 4-6 years of supervisory experience

  • Multistate Payroll including California; fluent in gross to net calculations and accounting principles

  • Payroll systems (UltiPro, Workday or ADP), third party in/out bound interfaces

  • Strong working knowledge of Excel, including pivot tables, V look-up

  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skill i ncluding communictation with executive leadership

  • Workday payroll system experience, preferred

  • Proven ability to act strategically and analytically with process and control discipline

Pay Range - $141,550.00 - $192,050.00
