Penguin Random House Director, Creative Strategy & Marketing Design, Random House (Hybrid) in New York, New York

The Random House Publishing Group is seeking a talented and visionary Director of Creative Strategy to lead our team of eight marketing designers. The Director will oversee the development of visually compelling and innovative marketing materials, including ads, social media assets, online banners, videos, and promotional pieces for our extensive catalog of fiction and nonfiction. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic thinker with a strong design background and a passion for storytelling. The job reports to the SVP of Marketing Strategy and Engagement.  Random House is a division of Penguin Random House the world's largest trade book publisher. The ideal candidate will be passionate about books and will be a confident and solutions-focused leader. They should possess a proven track record with at least five years of successful management experience, demonstrating the ability to motivate a team in a fast-paced environment. Specific responsibilities include:

• Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of eight marketing designers, ensuring the highest quality of creative output in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. 

• Develop and execute creative strategies for individual title marketing campaigns, with a focus on visual storytelling that advances campaign goals and objectives. 

• Oversee the design and production of a wide range of marketing materials, including digital ads, social media assets, online product page content, videos, and promotional pieces. 

• Collaborate with the title marketing team to develop creative concepts and campaigns that effectively promote our books and authors. 

• Work in partnership with the jacket art team in order to showcase and integrate their work seamlessly into the marketing design process 

• Stay current with design trends, industry developments, and emerging technologies to keep our creative work fresh and innovative. 

• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and resources are allocated efficiently. 

• Provide constructive feedback and guidance to the design team, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. 

• Cultivate a network of freelance talent and actively manage a freelance budget to support the in-house team.  

Please apply if you meet the following qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or a related field. 

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in a creative leadership role, preferably within the publishing, media, or entertainment industries. 

• Strong portfolio highlighting a diverse range of design work. 

• Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a creative team. 

• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate creative concepts and strategies clearly and persuasively. 

• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects) and other relevant design software, Canva, and WordPress. 

• Strong understanding of social media platforms, digital marketing, and emerging design trends. 

• Ability to work in a demanding environment, managing multiple projects and deadlines with ease. 

• Passion for books and storytelling, with a deep appreciation for the power of creative marketing in the publishing industry. 

Salary for this position is $110,000 - $150,000. Candidates with 10 – 15 years’ experience in creative leadership and previous people management experience will be eligible for a salary of $110,000 - $125,000. Candidates with over 15 years’ experience in creative leadership, in addition to managing and leading a team of direct reports, will be eligible for a salary of $125,000 - $150,000.  All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.  This hybrid position has in-office responsibilities, including, but not limited to, in-office meetings, author visits or events, and daily ad hoc administrative projects. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, and PA).
