JOB PURPOSE

The Market Lead / Sr. Client Manager primary purpose is to be externally focused to drive client acquisition and relationship development, ensuring CIBC's objectives related to growth, core deposits, profitability, risk, service are met. The Market Lead is focused on business development planning and implementation, prioritizing prospects, executing client relationship strategies and coordination of cross-sell efforts. Additionally, the Market Lead is responsible for the leadership, coaching and strategic guidance of the CRE team.

The position is jointly accountable with Debt Products for all material presented throughout the loan origination life-cycle, in New Deals Committee, Prescreen, and Loan Presentations. As Market Lead, the position will work in close collaboration with Client Management Regional Head and the Debt Products and Asset Management verticals throughout the loan life-cycle. The role has both external and internal responsibilities including direct engagement with Syndications, Capital Markets, and Private Banking among others. The Market Lead will have direct Borrower interaction and will be responsible for maintaining the client-focused nature of the CRE business.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Relationship Acquisition and Expansion

  • Responsible and accountable for new strategic relationship acquisition and resulting new business generation. Prioritize externally facing new business development efforts.

  • Execute strategies for profitable growth of deposits, loans, fees as well as selling bank products and services.

  • Active development and communication of Client Relationship Management (“CRM”) strategy to drive prospecting and relationship growth for Group. Participate in the execution of the CRM strategy including direct calling and networking.

  • Monitor the Market’s assets by maintaining quality of portfolio in coordination with Debt Products and Asset Management

  • Manage the strategic prioritization of the pipeline to achieve CRE LOB goals.

  • Maintain and develop strong relationship with internal departments (i.e. Credit, Loan Services, cross-sell partners)

  • Assist in resolving issues within Deal Team should dispute on deal points arise.

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Build and maintain cross-functional partnerships and networks to contribute and drive strong execution around key business initiatives

  • Maintain strong partnerships with other business functions/units (i.e. Credit, Finance, etc.)

  • Speaking up if witnessing behaviors that drive poor or unfair outcomes for clients, team members or other stakeholders

  • Escalating matters that can result in adverse market practices and outcomes, thereby negatively impacting CIBC’s reputation as a leading financial institution

AUTHORITIES/DECISION RIGHTS

  • ​As a key contributor to the business unit, this job has the authority to recommend changes to business processes in order to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Minimum of 10 years of applicable experience in CRE business development and prior experience in underwriting, structuring, loan closing, documentation, and portfolio management

  • Demonstrated success in attracting and retaining client relationships in accordance with the overall CRE business strategy

  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory expectations and industry best practices in risk management

  • Ability to successfully lead and coach the CRE team

  • Understanding of financial risks (i.e., credit, market and/or liquidity) and/or non-financial risks (i.e., operational, compliance, reputation, strategic), and of financial services businesses and products

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Results oriented with a high degree of attention to detail

  • Demonstrated ability to operate strategically

  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills including coaching, communication and change agility leadership

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and negotiate up, down and laterally

  • Ability to provide credit expertise within Commercial Real Estate

  • Expected to be well versed in all key systems, applications, and models used including proficiency in Microsoft Office products with advanced knowledge of financial analysis and modeling

  • Attend industry events to maintain current market knowledge

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This role operates within a normal office environment with little exposure to adverse working conditions.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $250,000.00 - $350,000.00 for the market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
