Academic Senior Advisor (HEOa)
POSITION DETAILS
The Academic Senior Advisor will report to the Deputy Director of Student Academic Success Hub at The City College of New York.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Academic Senior Advisor duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Provide comprehensive academic advisement to students who have not yet declared a major
• Maintain and track student records, advise and take action regarding program requirements
• Assist the director in developing new sessions for mandatory freshmen year requirement
• Collaborate with other divisional advisors in developing New Student Seminars that are specific to their units; conduct a series of academic skills workshops targeted to the entire at-risk Student Academic Success Hub cohort
• Manage and coordinate the advisement of the pre-engineering cohort; working in close collaboration with the Grove School of Engineering; and Career Services; develop strategies of intervention for this at-risk student sub-population within the Student Academic Success Hub cohort
• Works in close collaboration with the Deputy Director on establishing benchmarks to gauge academic progress in this cohort
• Devise new strategies to assess college-wide advising practices
• Responsible for the training and development of new and continuing advisors; responsible for the update of the Student Academic Success Hub Adviser Manual
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Provides expert and/or specialized academic counseling a diverse student population.
Offers comprehensive advisement to full-time and part-time students
Works with other academic affairs staff as well as enrollment and student affairs to assist students to declare majors and select appropriate courses
Monitors students' performances and takes appropriate action if necessary; resolves students' problems regarding curricular requirements
Develops academic plans and performs graduation audits
Provides information to students regarding student support services, college policies and program procedures and guidelines
Facilitates workshops; assists with other department activities such as course scheduling
Establishes and maintains student advisement files; prepares activity reports and analyses
May supervise extramural activities, such as internships and community service; may assist with accreditation efforts as needed
May provide career and transfer services and/or specialized program counseling
May supervise junior advising and/or clerical staff
Performs related duties as assigned.
