The investment teams support GI’s overall goals and objectives by providing market insight and in-depth knowledge of assigned asset classes. GI oversees the strategic deployment of capital for life and supplemental health insurance company balance sheets utilizing both internal teams and external third party asset managers.
Summary of Role
We are seeking an experienced investor in structured private credit to help drive growth of the Aflac SPC portfolio. The position will require market insight, an in-depth knowledge of the asset class, and understanding of its role within insurance company balance sheets. This individual will be a member of GI’s multi-asset class Private Assets team and will have the opportunity to collaborate with other Portfolio Managers and investing teams. In addition, the position has responsibility to collaborate with investment leaders and their teams in GI and with business leaders and staff in Aflac Inc., Aflac US and Aflac’s Japan insurance asset management subsidiary (AAMJ), which has investment and asset management responsibility for Aflac’s Japan insurance company.
Candidate Profile
The candidate will have demonstrated experience as an investor/portfolio manager in structured credit and/or private debt asset classes as well as previous banking or institutional asset management experience. The candidate will also have familiarity with major regulatory and leading industry frameworks influencing structured credit gained through experience in structuring, underwriting and/or investing in this asset class. Technical knowledge of securitization structuring, modeling, legal documentation, etc. required.
Key Relationships
Reports to : Managing Director, Head of Structured Private Credit
Primary Internal Relationships: Structured Private Credit team, GI business leaders and staff across front, middle and back office, GI Risk, Finance, FP&A, COO/Operations, Investment Accounting, Tax, Compliance and other key Aflac business partners
Primary External Relationships: Existing and new investment banking relationships, PE sponsors and other structured borrowers, peer and industry networks.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
Source deal flow, negotiate legal documentation and perform credit underwriting and relative value analysis on all new SPC deals
Manage and monitor existing portfolio through regular portfolio management activities including routine credit reviews of existing holdings, industry research to identify trends affecting specific holdings, and regular reporting to business partners regarding overall portfolio performance.
Provide quantitative and qualitative analysis essential to creating and maintaining robust knowledge of structured credit market and the various esoteric asset types represented in the market.
Solidify and mainta onal mentform.perational aspects of the extenal teamsrnal management platform. in banker, issuer and other key relationships to ensure continued sourcing strength for new deal activity
Financial analysis including cash flow projections, asset-level performance, financial modeling, and valuation of deal collateral.
Manage the delivery of quantitative and qualitative data and analysis by working closely with FP&A colleagues and GI’s Business Intelligence team. Assume responsibility for accuracy and timely delivery of information as required by the team’s reporting function
Collaborate with key stakeholders including the Chief Investment Officers, business unit heads, and business partners across Aflac Inc., Aflac Japan and Aflac US
Produce and manage asset class related research and projects
Coordinate related asset class and portfolio communication with US and Japan CIO teams and corporate business partners
Act as ambassador and asset class subject matter expert for Aflac and GI with peers and within the industry
Perform special projects as required including participation in GI and Aflac workstreams
Prepare qualitative and quantitative analyses and summaries as required
Candidate Qualifications
The qualified candidate will have experience and available references demonstrating the following attributes:
Minimum of 7 years of demonstrated portfolio management experience managing structured credit in an institutional asset management environment and/or previous structured credit banking experience
Experience in Accounting, Tax, Regulatory, Legal, Audit, Compliance matters in relation to assigned asset classes and markets, with particular expertise in life insurance company investing
Solid and demonstrated knowledge of investments and global capital markets, with experience in investing prudently and effectively in complex, constrained insurance and/or financial organizations
Must have experience in delivering projects, including on tight delivery timeframes and to executive audiences
Proven ability to execute on goals, prioritize and work with teams to meet deadlines
Demonstrated effectiveness in working and collaborating in team environment within and across multiple functions, notable if across time zones and cultures
Experience in navigating and effectively handling socialization and governance in complex organizations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent critical thinking, quantitative and analytical skills
Aptitude to manage and rationalize data from various sources
Excellent skills in Excel for sourcing, managing and assembling data for cash flow modeling, ad hoc analysis, formal projects and reporting
Undergraduate university credentials; advanced study in relevant field a plus
Prefer CFA or equivalent professional qualifications
Experience with Japan insurance company investing and regulatory risk frameworks a plus
Please note: Aflac Global Investments' hybrid working environment requires a minimum of 3 days in the office each week
The range on this positions is: $200,000 - $265,000
This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Aflac at the time of the posting. Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. This salary range does not include any potential incentive pay or benefits, however, such information will be provided separately when appropriate.
