Pinkerton Coach – Summer Bridge Program

POSITION SUMMARY:
The SYEP Pinkerton Summer Bridge Program supports college-bound high school seniors by providing them with summer employment at our Summer Camp through the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). Participants also engage in a CUNY summer course (three hours per week on-site) and have the opportunity to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
The Pinkerton Coach plays a crucial role in this initiative, collaborating with high school seniors, employers, and community partners to ensure students successfully transition from high school to college and the workforce. This position is a key part of our College Access and Success programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as a Teaching Assistant for the CUNY Youth Development summer course.
Provide academic support, including following up with students on assignments and exams.
Facilitate workshops that prepare students for their transition from high school to college.
Offer one-on-one and group college/career counseling to guide students through post-secondary pathways.
Assist students with enrollment paperwork, financial aid verification, registration, and orientation.
Coordinate CPR/First Aid certification scheduling.
Maintain accurate paperwork and data entry to support high-quality counseling services.
Serve as a positive representative of the Student Success Center.
Organize campus visits and provide logistical support.
Plan and execute the final class celebration event.
Support lunch setup and ordering for class days.
Ensure students complete evaluations and required paperwork.
Track student attendance at mandatory training sessions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
Work 25 hours per week.
Alumni of an NYC public high school or hold a High School Equivalency Diploma.
Currently enrolled as a junior or senior at a CUNY college with a minimum 2.0 GPA.
Previous experience in youth leadership or as a College Bridge Coach (preferred).
Availability to attend training sessions and work throughout the summer.
Highly motivated, responsible, and a strong team player.
Proficiency in computer skills and email communication.
Bilingual skills are a plus but not required.
Strong ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, mouse, and telephone.
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Work in a typical office environment with moderate noise levels.
EMPLOYMENT DETAILS:
- Employment is at will and subject to a 90-day probationary period, including 45- and 90-day check-ins.
