POSITION DETAILS

ASAP helps students earn their college degree as quickly as possible by removing the financial, academic, and personal obstacles that many students face. Reporting to the ASAP Director, the ASAP Associate Director supervises and monitors the day-to-day work of academic advisors, ensuring they provide timely, effective academic guidance for all students to support degree completion. The Associate Director also ensures student engagement aligns with the program’s advisement rubric. The role is responsible for monitoring and analyzing individual advisor and overall program engagement data consistently to ensure advisors meet program engagement benchmarks.

The ASAP Associate Director (Advisement) assesses needs and gaps, develops strategies for effective advisement programming, and collaborates with other designated program staff on retention-related activities. The Associate Director assists the ASAP Director in key program administrative areas and provides a framework of support, guidance, and professional development for their advisees.

Key responsibilities include:

• Supervising ASAP advisors in the delivery of comprehensive support services to ASAP students, with additional support for transfer students, if applicable

• Overseeing the timely entry of student enrollment and program contact tracking data into the ASAPi database

• Monitoring and assessing individual advisor reports regularly to ensure progress toward ASAP success benchmarks and to identify student support needs

• Overseeing ongoing training, support, and professional development for ASAP advisement staff

• Monitoring and disseminating changes in college advisement procedures and academic policies

• Supervising the planning and implementation of ASAP summer programming, including summer course offerings, workshops, prep sessions, and other special student activities

• Assisting and supporting the Associate Director of Recruitment and Retention with recruitment planning, advisement scheduling, and activities during recruitment

• Assisting the ASAP Director with required reporting and collaborating with other college units

• Performing related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in an appropriate discipline and six years related experience.

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Strong understanding of the needs and challenges facing students from diverse urban backgrounds

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, within the department and with faculty and other administrators

  • Strong organization, project management, communication, and facilitation skills

  • Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records of student activities

  • Computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, and aptitude to learn new systems as needed.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Manages the development and operations of academic counseling services.

  • Develops and coordinates campus efforts to provide a comprehensive academic advisement model and protocol; assists with strategic planning

  • Supervises an academic advisement center; oversees counseling activities to provide consistently reliable information to students

  • Works with academic departments to develop faculty advisement components

  • Collaborates with other campus offices to provide smooth and coordinated access to academic counseling services in order to enhance student performance and retention

  • Develops workshops and other training to utilize advising technologies

  • Oversees the development of advisement brochures and sample study programs

  • Assesses academic counseling activities by tracking student progress and evaluating advisement system; recommends enhancements

  • Organizes and facilitates ongoing training on use of advising technologies

  • May manage professional and clerical staff; may monitor unit budget

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

The salary range is $104,047–$107,789 , commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience.
